Sister Courses
Two Communities.
One Philosophy.
Expanding the “Sioux Creek Vibe” to the heart of Balsam Lake.
The Regional Connection
Sioux Creek Golf Course in Chetek and The Woods Golf Course at Balsam Lake (formally 5 Flags) are more than just neighbors—they are sister courses. Linked by a shared ownership group and a common vision, these two properties represent a deep-rooted commitment to providing premier, inclusive golf experiences across Northwest Wisconsin.
Expanding the Family
While Sioux Creek is powered by Bruce Halvorson along with his partners Tasha Brandemuehl, Andy Slind, and Tyler Slind, our sister course in Balsam Lake is driven by Bruce, Quinn Johnson, and Bryan “Tat” Tahtinen. Together, these teams represent a regional network of hospitality and high-quality turf management. Whether you are crossing Jay’s Covered Bridge here in Chetek or navigating the newly restored timber-lined fairways at The Woods, you are part of the family.
Two Destinations, One Spirit
Sioux Creek
(Chetek, WI)
Our home on the water. Known for the iconic cedar-sided covered bridge, the Sioux Creek version of “Amen Corner” stretch, and the best Bloody Mary in the Northwoods.
The Woods
(Balsam Lake, WI)
A 9-hole gem winding through mature timber. Currently undergoing a restoration, it is being transformed into a multi-day destination featuring a future woodland campground.
What This Means for Our Players
Being “Sister Courses” isn’t just a title; it’s a direct benefit for our golfers.
A Familiar
Face
You’ll find the same welcoming, “come as you are” culture at both properties. We believe golf should be a place where everyone feels at home.
Consistency
in Quality
Both courses are managed under the “land-first” stewardship philosophy. When you see the Sioux Creek logo or The Woods logo, you know the greens and fairways are being held to the highest standards.
A Regional Golf Network
We are building a corridor of great golf in Northwest Wisconsin. Members and friends of Sioux Creek can look forward to future cross-course events, reciprocal opportunities, and “Sister Course” tournament series.
